A look at Clijsters' top achievements as she plots a return

Kim Clijsters is officially coming back on tour. The 36-year-old mother of three plans to return to competition in 2020. It's exciting news for her many, many fans.

Here's a glimpse at what the Belgian has already accomplished in her career.

She reached four Grand Slam finals and became world No. 1 in 2003 before ever winning the first of four majors. The feat made her the first Belgian to ever hold the top spot in singles or doubles.

In 2005, she won her first Grand Slam title at the US Open. She beat Venus Williams, Maria Sharapova and then Mary Pierce in the final.

Clijsters returned to No. 1 in 2006, but would take a two-year break from the tour to have her daughter Jada in 2008. In 2009, she made her first comeback without a ranking. She would win the US Open that same year with Jada on hand for the trophy ceremony.

Not stopping there, Clijsters defending her US Open crown in 2010 and added an Australian Open crown in 2011. She won 41 total WTA titles titles, before retiring at the 2012 US Open after losing in the second round.

Clijsters was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2017 alongside Andy Roddick. During the first week of this year's US Open, she was inducted into the US Open’s Court of Champions as the 28th inductee and the first since Tracy Austin in 2016.

Clijsters also welcomed her third child in 2016, a son named Blake. Her first son Jack was born in 2013, a year after she retired.

The former No. 1 revealed her plans on the WTA Insider Podcast on Thursday.

"I don't feel like I need to prove anything, but I want to challenge myself and I want to be strong again," she said. "This is my marathon. This is where I'm saying OK, let's try this."
