Matteo Berrettini has undergone hand surgery following his injury withdrawal from Miami.

The 25-year-old Italian had what he described as a minor procedure in Spain.

"My team and I have been speaking to medical experts since my withdrawal from Miami with a right hand injury. Following multiple scans and assessments we decided a minor operation was the best solution," he revealed on social media Tuesday.

Saying the surgery went succesfully, Berrettini added his "doctor and team are already discussing plans for me to get back on court."

Berrettini also recently retired mid-match in Acapulco with an abdomen problem, similar to the injury he started and finished the season with in 2021. Still, he's had a rapid climb into the Top 10 during this stretch, and is currently No. 6 in the rankings. He started his season with a good run, reaching his first Australian Open semifinal.

Berrettini did not provide a schedule for his planned return to the ATP tour.
