Andreescu consoles injured Serena after Toronto win

Bianca Andreescu emerged as the Rogers Cup champion after just four games when Serena Williams retired while down 3-1.

Andreescu consoled the 23-time Grand Slam champion, who was in tears for much of the awards ceremony.

"I know how it is to pull out of tournaments and be injured. It’s not easy," Andreescu told Serena. "This wasn’t the way I expected to win and for you to go off the court."

Serena has dealt with injuries throughout all of her career, but has been especially hindered this year with knee and now back problems. Andreescu, though just 19, has had her fair share of setbacks too, having missed most of the season after her Indian Wells win with a right shoulder tear.

Andreescu rises to No. 14 in the world with her historic win (she's the first Canadian woman to win the Rogers Cup since 1969).
