After Rublev held for 3-2 in the deciding set, it soon became clear there would be some form of weather-related interruption.
“So why don’t we wait 10 minutes to see if it stops raining?” inquired Fritz, who voiced he wasn’t a fan of “trying” for a game to see if conditions held up.
As for Rublev, he wanted details on the forecast, information the chair umpire couldn’t provide.
“But what time it stop?” asked Rublev.
“They don’t have a time.”
Responded Rublev, “The iPhone doesn’t show?”
“I’m not sure this is very accurate. I don't know. I don’t have it with me.”
Smiling, Rublev finished his thought. “The iPhone show at least after 6 no rain or tomorrow morning, no rain.”
It didn’t take long for a decision to bring competitors off the court, with play not expected to resume until at least 5 p.m. local time.
