Ashlyn Krueger upsets No. 3 seed Victoria Azarenka to reach Den Bosch quarterfinals

World No. 152 Ashlyn Krueger scored the first Top 20 victory of her career on Wednesday in 's-Hertogenbosch.

The 19-year-old American ousted 19th-ranked Victoria Azarenka, 6-3, 6-2, to secure her place in the Libema Open quarterfinals. Krueger broke the No. 3 seed four times, while saving four of the five break points against her serve to advance after 73 minutes.

Top seed Veronika Kudermetova also breezed into the final eight with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Carol Zhao. The world No. 14 improved to 20-12 on the season, one that includes four semifinal showings thus far.

In Nottingham, 2021 Wimbledon quarterfinalist Viktorija Golubic knocked out fourth-seeded Donna Vekic, 6-4, 6-1, in a second-round meeting. The 30-year-old Swiss, who lost in the opening round of Roland Garros qualifying, picked up a pair of wins at the $100k ITF event in Surbiton coming into this WTA 250 event.
