At 2:25 a.m., Schwartzman joins Pella in Buenos Aires win column
The top two seeds emerged victorious in a pair of all-Argentine matchups at the ATP 250 event to win their Thursday-scheduled openers.
In a night session that featured two all-Argentine matchups for fans to soak up, top seed Diego Schwartzman rounded out Thursday’s winners in Buenos Aires at 2:25 a.m. local time.
Down an early break in a deciding set to Federico Delbonis, Schwartzman reeled off six successive games to complete a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 victory, joining countryman Guido Pella in the winner’s circle. Schwartzman and Delbonis began minutes before midnight after the second-seeded Pella outlasted qualifier Facundo Bagnis, 7-6 (2), 6-7 (2), 6-4, in three hours and 13 minutes.

Schwartzman and Pella are each seeking to triumph on home soil for the first time on the ATP tour. Last week, Schwartzman finished runner-up to Cristian Garin in Cordoba, matching Pella’s 2019 effort at the event.
Pella is slated to take on another compatriot in Juan Ignacio Londero in Friday’s second match on, not before 4 p.m., while Schwartzman will return in the first evening clash against Pablo Cuevas. The Uruguayan owns six ATP crowns, with all coming on clay.
