Hi all. Here's today's space for your tennis-related conversations about the Australian Open. Crisis Center threads are always busy places, so keeping this thread on-topic will be much appreciated.

Matches of the Day:

We're now into the third round.

Men:
Juan Martin Del Potro vs. Gilles Muller. This will be a first-time encounter. Including qualifying rounds, last year's US Open quarterfinalist Muller already has ten matches under his belt this season, and has beaten Feliciano Lopez in five sets, and Bernard Tomic over four sets. I've yet to see Del Potro play in 2009.
Marin Cilic vs. David Ferrer. These two players have never met before now. Ferrer survived a five-setter with Denis Gremelmayr in the first round; Cilic put out Janko Tipsarevic in the second round, over four sets.
Marat Safin vs. Roger Federer. I know many of you will be riveted by this one, the second night match on Rod Laver Arena. Federer leads this head-to-head 9-2, so it's hard to see him as anything but the strong favourite - he hasn't lost to Safin since their Australian Open semifinal in 2005, when Safin won the fifth set and went on to claim the title.

Women:
Caroline Wozniacki vs. Jelena Dokic. This will be the first night match on Rod Laver Arena, where Dokic took out Anna Chakvetadze two days ago. No doubt Dokic will be again boosted by the crowd from her adopted country. There's no head-to-head between these two players.
Daniela Hantuchova vs. Alize Cornet. Last year's semifinalist Hantuchova leads the head-to-head 2-1, with both matches taking place in Melbourne, but Cornet won their last match.

Player of the Day:

Spain's Carla Suarez Navarro, who defeated Venus Williams over three sets, coming back from 2-5 down in the third, and saving a match point at 4-5.

As always, enjoy the tennis.
