Hi all. The tennis from Melbourne Park is starting a little later today - a sign that we've reached deep into the tournament. The first set of quarterfinals are being played - four matches in all.

As always, this is your space for discussing the tennis as it unfolds. Please hold any off-topic conversations until later, after the matches are over.

Player of the Day
On the WTA side I don't have many options, as two players retired. On balance I think the player who delivered the most inspiring performance of the day must be number 14 seed Fernando Verdasco, who beat Andy Murray for the first time, clinching his victory in a close fifth set.

As always, enjoy the day's tennis.
