Bryans win 118th title, first big event since Bob's hip surgery
"A doctor was cutting me open eight months ago and I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to make it back on court."
The Miami Open still has the same doubles champions, but they're not quite the same as when they won the event in 2018.
The Bryan brothers won a record 118th title along with their sixth at Miami, but it was their first Masters victory since Bob Bryan returned from hip replacement surgery. The pair also won the Delray Beach Open a few weeks ago.
"A doctor was cutting me open eight months ago and I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to make it back on court," Bob Bryan was quoted as saying by the ATP tour. "This is huge for us."
He injured his hip on court at Madrid, and was sidelined by surgery while Mike Bryan formed a winning partnership with Jack Sock. The 40-year-old pair reunited at the start of this season and have returned to victory at Florida, now the home of Bob Bryan.
"Bob’s been through a lot on the couch. To have him back at full strength and winning here in Miami... is unreal," said Mike Bryan. "This is a special event for us and to defend it is amazing."
The win also keeps Mike Bryan at No. 1 and Bob Bryan within the top 20 in the doubles rankings.
