Canadians, Osaka, Halep and more play 2019 Syrup Cup

As the competition heats up on the court, a few WTA stars wanted more and took part in a unique off-court competition: The Officially Unofficial 2019 Syrup Cup.

Canadians Eugenie Bouchard, Bianca Andreescu and Leylah Fernandez had the obvious edge as the competitors were given four cups of samples. The cups had honey, real Canadian maple syrup, low sugar maple syrup and a table syrup (which is not legit Canadian maple syrup, but a cheaper alternative).

Simona Halep, Naomi Osaka and Ashleigh Barty all truly struggled.

"Well, I got every one wrong. So that's standard," Barty said. "That's pretty normal. Vegemite vs. Marmite, for the rest of the world, I'm pretty sure I'd get that right."

Barty lost her opener to Sofia Kenin in three sets, while Bouchard had to face down compatriot Andreescu in the first round, also losing in three sets.

"Like, you can only have Canadian maple syrup," Bouchard said. "Nothing else is good enough."
