Celebrities help raise money for tennis and education

On the opening night of the US Open the stars collided for the USTA Foundation Gala at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

The event, co-hosted by Billie Jean King and TV personality Michael Greenber, raised more than $1.5 million for tennis and education.

Celebrities in attendance included Hugh Jackman, Anna Wintour, Katie Couric, Mike Tyson and Vera Wang. A VIP auction offered admission to a Luke Bryan concert anywhere in the U.S., raising an additional $55,000.

The Foundation also presented 22-time Grand Slam doubles champion Pam Shriver with a surprise award for leadership and advocacy.

They were treated to Serena Williams' first-round win over Magda Linette.

A special auction package by Vogue, Michael Kors and Julien Farel is open for bidding through Thursday. It will benefit the USTA Foundation and includes a tour of Vogue’s NYC office, two tickets to the Michael Kors New York Fashion Week Show, a meet-and-greet with Anna Wintour and more. The estimated value of the package is $25,000.
