De Minaur becomes youngest UTS champion

Unlike the Ultimate Tennis Showdown's previous events, the latest installment only ran for a few days compared to being played over multiple weekends. Which meant the action was jam-packed and it did not disappoint.

On Sunday, Alex de Minaur "The Demon" faced off against Richard Gasquet "The Virtuoso" for the UTS crown. In his debut, de Minaur was just short of perfect, as he easily dismissed Dan Evans and Pablo Andujar without dropping a quarter en route to the final round. Gasquet on the other hand, was tested against Taylor Fritz and barely escaped their sudden-death thriller.

Match Point Denied

At 16-16 in the third quarter, the Aussie would hold match point but Gasquet wasn't ready to hand over the UTS win. With a backhand volley to the open court, the Frenchman would deny de Minaur of another seamless win.

Gasquet's Run Ends

The world No. 54 wasn't able to maintain the momentum in the fourth and final quarter. De Minaur quickly shook off the missed match point opportunity and raced off to a 15-3 lead.

Until Next Time

These two competitors will meet again in just a couple days on the same courts in Antwerp.  The next time however, will be played without speciality cards and timed quarters at next week's European Open.
