In his first ever ATP final, Denis Shapovalov emerged victorious with a convincing 6-4, 6-4 win over Serbian Filip Krajinovic.

The talented 20-year-old was a startling 0-7 in tournament semifinals prior to Saturday’s victory over Yuichi Sugita, but he was on a mission this week in Stockholm. Shapovalov did not drop a set en route to his maiden title.

“I’ll try my best in this speech, I’m not used to giving them,” a smiling Shapovalov said.

“We’ve been working really hard to lift an ATP title,” Shapovalov said of his team, “I’ve struggled to get past the semifinals, it’s definitely a big step for me.”

With his win, Shapovalov will rejoin the world’s top-30 for the first time since July.

The huge-hitting Canadian also became the 15th first time winner on the ATP Tour this year. His Stockholm championship is a feather in the cap for an already monumental year for Canadian tennis.
