Deuce Club: Meet Jackie-Oh!
Evening, everyone. As most of you know, Heidi Kim has had to give up her post as the TWibe's social director, but she'll be around, reading, commenting, and (I hope) contributing a post or two when the mood strikes her. After Heidi and I discussed the situation, I was inclined to let Deuce Club slide into oblivion, because I felt it would be too demanding for me to handle DC, which is really more of a social-community space, while providing a stream of red-meat posts and doing other site-related work. The problem would have been especially acute during tournament-coverage weeks.

But once again cavalry came galloping in, in the shape of a spirited reader who suddenly materialized on the horizon and offered her services. That would be regular comment poster Jackie (to my mind, she's already Jackie-oh!, and that's her on the far right in this photo). Of course, due diligence was required on this, just to make sure it was a good fit, and that she understood the job description. After all, we wouldn't want to turn DC over to, say, some covert Fabio Fognini KAD whose agenda is turning the DC into a platform for anti-Federer and anti-Nadal ranting, right?
Jackie, as many of you know, is the young lady who created the TennisWorld>Real World group at Facebook, which is chugging along nicely. I created an account there and joined the group, although some of the features baffle me, and I can't spend a lot of time hobnobbing there. Anyway, it's a great way for everyone to get - or stay - connected, off-line (re. TennisWorld) as they say, and I'm hoping the group will prosper and serve as a community hub for the TWibe. Jackie-oh! will be the one updating you on that. She'll begin posting next Thursday, but for now, let me share a little bit of what I know about her - she'll fill in some of the blanks next week.
Although she says she doesn't read nearly as much as she ought (of course, there's no books-per-week quota for our social director), she likes Rilke (I think he's the guy who wrote Fabio Fognini: The Early Years). Most everything she needs or owns (except for her AR-7) comes from her one-stop shopping spot, Nordstroms. Her most recent CD (a gift) was Coldplay's Viva la Vida (I'll cut her some slack on that) and her favorite TV show of all time is I Love Lucy (atta girl!).
I'll let Jackie tell you all about her favorite sport besides tennis next week, but for now I'll reveal that she supports the Chicago Cubs, Bears and Bulls (that's a clue about where she lives, folks, but keep in mind that she also has a sneaky New York Yankees gene). She's the youngest of three girls.
A few months ago, Jackie attended her first pro tournament, the Cincinnati Masters. She's seriously looking at Indian Wells in March as her next trip, and I know she's fit right in with the usual crew at our gathering place, The Beer Hunter. I get the feeling that she's one of those all-purpose chicas who would be fine with a burger and fries, although she's a vegetarian (hey, I don't sweat the details, but if she wants to give up her favorite Korean BBQ a specialty called "kalbi" (marinated beef short ribs), that's her business). For dessert, she likes brownie à la mode, so if anyone has a special recipe for that, it would be a nice welcome present.
As for pet peeves, she doesn't like getting her socks wet, or when people misspell "you're" as "your."
And yes, I was kidding about the AR-7. You can't have everything in an SD, right?
