Doubles Take: A heavy workload for Australia's best

Will the young stars have fresh legs for doubles after impressing

The weekend’s here, but there’s no time to rest with more doubles action in store.

Someone has to catch the brunt of scheduling at a Grand Slam, and this time, it looks like it’s going to be Ashleigh Barty’s turn.

The young Australian and her countrywoman, Casey Dellacqua, got through a potentially tough opener in doubles in Round 1, beating Elise Mertens and Demi Schuurs in straight sets.

On Saturday, Barty has some double-duty ahead of her: She plays her third-round singles match and second-round doubles match as she and Dellacqua take on Americans Jennifer Brady and Vania King.

Here are your three Doubles Take-approved matches to be on the lookout for.

Sam Groth/Lleyton Hewitt vs. (3) Jean-Julien Rojer/Horia Tecau: It’s one thing to win against a scratch pairing like Denis Istomin and Mikhail Kukushkin. Going against the defending US Open champs is another matter entirely.

Groth and Hewitt will definitely have the fans behind them, but will it be enough against Rojer and Tecau? The duo reached the semifinals of the tournament in 2015 and knows how to step up their games for Grand Slams, so nerves associated with a stadium cheering against them won’t be a factor. Anyone watching will know that Hewitt will be up for the challenge.

Nick Kyrgios/Matt Reid vs. Jeremy Chardy/Fabrice Martin: Ahh, to be 22 and playing some of the best tennis of your life: Why not try to keep it going as long as possible?

Kyrgios is through to the fourth round in singles after playing a tough four-setter against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga on Friday night, and now he was going to have to bounce back and play doubles. There was talk that he would pull out to preserve his energy for singles. In the end, it was Reid who made the move, pulling out for the overall benefit of his partner.

(6) Andrea Hlavackova/Edouard Roger-Vasselin vs. Shuai Peng/Max Mirnyi: It’s a mixed doubles reunion of sorts for Hlavackova and Mirnyi: The two teamed up to win the US Open title back in 2013.

It’s the only mixed title of Hlavackova’s career, while Mirnyi has won three more: two with Serena Williams and the other with countrywoman Victoria Azarenka. Hlavackova and Roger-Vasselin, though, have reached the semis of the French Open two years running. Peng, a Top-10 doubles player, hasn’t had much success in mixed and that could be the difference.
