Emma Raducanu withdraws from Wimbledon mixed doubles, ending Andy Murray's Grand Slam career
The 21-year-old attributed "stiffness in my right wrist" as the reason for backing out Saturday.
On Thursday night, Andy Murray was honored with a special tribute on Centre Court after losing his men’s doubles opener with brother Jamie Murray.
Less than 48 hours later, that appearance now officially marks the end of his Wimbledon—and Grand Slam—career.
Due to play mixed doubles with Emma Raducanu third on No.1 Court Saturday evening, his countrywoman made the “tough” decision to pull out from the draw.
"Unfortunately I woke up with some stiffness in my right wrist, so therefore I have decided to make the very tough decision to withdraw from the mixed doubles tonight,” Raducanu said in a statement provided by the LTA.
“I’m disappointed as I was really looking forward to playing with Andy but got to take care."

The evening prior, Raducanu matched her best Wimbledon showing when she ousted No. 9 seed Maria Sakkari, 6-2, 6-3, in the third round of the women’s singles event. The 21-year-old advanced to face qualifier Lulu Sun in her best major result since capturing the 2021 US Open title.
This would have marked Murray’s first mixed doubles appearance since 2019 Wimbledon, when he joined forces with 23-time major singles winner Serena Williams to win a pair of matches.
His mother Judy replied to a post on X (formerly Twitter) in agreement that Raducanu’s news was “astonishing.”
The 37-year-old is expected to hang up his racquet after suiting up for his fifth Olympic Games in Paris later this month. Murray has entered singles and men’s doubles with Dan Evans.
