Five facts to know about Barty's Roland Garros win
Ashleigh Barty made history on Saturday by winning the Roland Garros title over Czech teenager Marketa Vondrousova, 6-1, 6-3. The win puts the No. 8-seeded Barty in some elite company as an Australian Grand Slam singles champion—she won the US Open doubles crown last year.
Here are five facts to know:
1
She's the first Australian to win Roland Garros since Margaret Court in 1973.

2
The 23-year-old is the first Australian Grand Slam champion since Samantha Stosur won the US Open in 2011.

3
Her ranking will rise to No. 2 on Monday, making her the highest-ranked Australian female since Evonne Goolagong in 1976.

4
Three years ago, Barty re-entered the WTA rankings at No. 623 after taking a break from the game for 18 months. She would crack the Top 20 the following year in 2017.

5
Roland Garros is Barty's fifth career title. She won the Miami earlier this year, as well as Nottingham and Zhuhai last year, and Kuala Lumpur in 2017.
