Frances Tiafoe remains heartbeat of Team World with sixth Laver Cup appointment
The two-time US Open semifinalist is set to join Fritz, Shelton, Paul and Fonseca in San Francisco.
The Laver Cup will celebrate its eighth edition when the men’s team competition comes to San Francisco next month.
Over the years, Frances Tiafoe has been the heartbeat for Team World. On Tuesday, it was announced that the two-time US Open semifinalist is suiting up for a sixth time—keeping pace with Team Europe’s Alexander Zverev for the most appearances in event history.
“There’s nothing like Laver Cup. I love playing for Team World and competing alongside guys who are usually my rivals,” Tiafoe said in a statement provided by organizers.
“We’ve built something special, and I can’t wait to bring that same energy to San Francisco. Playing at home in front of U.S. fans means a lot—and I want to do everything I can to help us win.”

Tiafoe knows how to deliver on that front. He memorably saved match points to edge Stefanos Tsitsipas in 2022, a comeback that clinched his team’s first victory in five attempts. He owns three wins apiece in singles and doubles since debuting eight years ago.
Said first-year Captain Andre Agassi, “He brings incredible energy while on court and to our bench when supporting the team. His presence lifts everyone around him. I’m thrilled to have him on our team.”
The Hyattsville, Md. native is the fourth American named to Team World, alongside Taylor Fritz, Ben Shelton and Tommy Paul. Brazil’s Joao Fonseca has been tipped to make his debut, with one roster spot left. Team Europe has two open places on a squad led by world No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz and No. 3-ranked Zverev.
The battle begins Sept. 19 at the Chase Center. The first team to reach 13 points over the three-day event is crowned Laver Cup champion. Match wins grow in value after each day of competition: one point on Friday, two points on Saturday, and three points on Sunday.
