Gauff, Osaka and more turn to TikTok amid quarantine
Twelve days since the cancellation of Indian Wells, and with at least 79 days until the return of tour-level tennis, players have taken to a newer, cooler place on the internet to entertain their fans and one another: the video platform TikTok.
For example, Alex de Minaur has been chronicling his adventures with a talking stuffed animal named Sparky:
And Coco Gauff, probably tennis' most prolific TikTok creator, made, among many other clips, a video of her socially distanced yoga session:
Her mantle might soon be taken, though, by Kristie Ahn, who's been having all kinds of fun on the platform:
Meanwhile, Caty McNally used it to embarrass her mom in Home Depot:
And Naomi Osaka, who joined the trend just recently, played pop star by singing into a toothbrush:
Even Serena Williams has joined the trend, as well as Elina Svitolina and Victoria Azarenka.
There is, suffice it to say, a long way to go before tennis returns to "normal." Fortunately, with this generation of players, you'll never have to go too long without hearing the stars.
