Gauff reacts to Laver's wish to meet her

Everybody wants a little piece of Coco Gauff these days, even Rod Laver himself. Coco mania picked up speed in Melbourne after the teenager dethroned defending champion Naomi Osaka, 6-3, 6-4 to reach the fourth round.

Two years ago, the 15-year-old had lost in the first round of the junior tournament. Now she was playing her first-ever match inside of Rod Laver Arena. On court, she asked if she's met Laver yet.

"I walked past him a couple of times in the hallways, but I never really said hi because I'm a little bit nervous," she said. "If he see this, tell him we can set up a meetup some time. I need a selfie for Instagram."

Laver took to Twitter:

"I haven't run into him yet. But I'm sure tomorrow I'll see him," Gauff said in press. "My mom actually screen shot [the tweet] and sent it to me."

C. Gauff: Third Round Win

Laver would be just one more living legend that Gauff has gotten to spend time with. She's interacted with the likes of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams, as well as non-tennis stars like Kyrie Irving, Kawhi Leonard, Mike Tyson, Michelle Obama and Jaden Smith.

Gauff's win was a shocker after the American teen was dismissed by Osaka at the US Open.

"Definitely a difference in the mentality entering into the match," Gauff said when asked to compare the two matches. "I was a lot more calm...I think now coming into this, I'm just going to have fun, play my best tennis and see what happens. I came out with the win today, and I think that made the difference."

Gauff will next face fellow young American Sofia Kenin. Both are seeking their first career Grand Slam quarterfinal.
