Geared Up: Alexander Zverev powers his game with Head and Adidas
A closer look at the equipment and apparel of Germany’s top men’s player.
FLASHBACK: Zverev reached the semifinals in Halle before Wimbledon.
Racquet: Head Gravity Pro 2023 ($269) (Purchase now at Tennis-Point.com)
The Pro is the heaviest and most demanding model in the Gravity family. With its thin (20mm), flexible, constant beam and 18x20 string pattern, the frame gives off old-school vibes. However, its wider shape in the upper portion of the hoop and 100 square-inch head size give it a more modern appeal. It takes some game to wield effectively, but rewards capable users with hefty shots, pinpoint control and arm-friendly response. This newest version has Auxetic construction in the yoke, which gives the frame an overall sturdier and comfortable feel, particularly on off-center hits. The flip design cosmetic has also been given a sleeker, black and silver combination.
Shoes: Adidas Ubersonic 4.1 ($140) (Purchase now at Tennis-Point.com)
Rather than a full-on update, the recently released Ubersonic 4.1 is more of a minor revision with major improvements. The outgoing Ubersonic 4 had its merits, but a rather roomy cut drew some criticism. The 4.1 is built off the same last as the popular Ubersonic 2, giving it a narrower, more supportive fit.

The lacing system and heel padding have also been modified for improved comfort. The Primeknit upper and Lightstrike cushioning are engineered to provide a smooth, responsive ride while keeping weight to a minimum. A definite must-try for speed shoe enthusiasts.
Apparel: Aeroready Freelift Polo ($85) (Purchase now at Tennis-Point.com) and Aeroready Pro Short ($70) (Purchase now at Tennis-Point.com)
The Polo is made with a raised jacquard pique material, asymmetrical back shoulder paneling and a no-button placket. Two-color striping on the left portion of the collar adds just a touch of flare. The Pro Short is made with recycled polyester in a glossy, satin weave. It has a 9-inch inseam with an inner leg mesh gusset for ease of movement.
