Geared Up: Jack Draper is becoming a force with Dunlop and Nike

A closer look at the equipment of the US Open semifinalist and Great Britain’s top-ranked player.

MATCH POINT: Jack Draper scores career victory over Carlos Alcaraz at Queen's Club0:47

Racquet: Dunlop FX 500 Tour ($199)

The FX is Dunlop’s power franchise—the “F” stands for force—offering easy pace and a forgiving sweet spot. The smaller head, thinner beam and added mass of the Tour make for the most controlled and predictable response in the line. This latest version has a lower flex compared to the outgoing model, giving the still firm frame a softer, more comfortable feel. This also creates more dwell time at contact, which helps with spin generation and a higher launch angle.

A new and wider groove built under the grommet strip produces more frame and string deflection at impact for bigger hitting. Even though it has the Tour label, it has a very manageable swingweight and is a blur through the hitting zone: Aggressive players like Draper can take big cuts to smack laser serves and heavy groundies to bully opponents all over the court.

Apparel: NikeCourt Slam Dri-Fit Top ($90) and Victory Short ($50)

The moisture-wicking tech of this shirt draws sweat away from the body for faster drying to keep you cool and comfortable. Open-hole mesh on the back also bolsters ventilation. The material features small raised nodes to prevent clinging to the skin. The wrap-around seam construction around the shoulders, sleeve vents and relaxed, loose fit, are all designed to promote unfettered movement.

The lightweight shorts are also made with moisture-management material and a smooth, woven design. The elastic waistband and drawcord offer an adjustable and customized fit. The dual mesh side pockets provide convenient ball storage during play, and a spot for personal items when off the court.

Shoes: Nike Vapor Pro 2 Premium ($140)

The second installment of this sturdy, all-court shoe returns its low-to-the-ground ride for maximum responsiveness and explosive movement. Air Zoom cushioning in the forefoot and foam in the midfoot provide spring and protection while maintaining good court connection. A stretchy inner sleeve hugs the foot like a sock, and the asymmetrical lacing allows you to cinch the shoes tight without pinching. A full-length foot frame on the outside of the shoe provides added security when making aggressive lateral cuts. Rubber has been removed from the data-informed outsole to create optimal grip and durability without impairing the ability to slide.
