''It’s a great honor to play with such a legend'': Ons Jabeur gears up for chance to partner Serena Williams

Ons Jabeur might currently be at a career-high No. 4 in singles but she's decided to turn her attention to doubles—at least for next week.

The 27-year-old from Tunisia has been announced as Serena Williams's doubles partner at the WTA event in Eastbourne for what will be a surprise appearance from Williams, who has not played on tour for almost a year and did not originally enter any grass events.

But having now been revealed as one of the wild cards at Wimbledon, where she is a seven-time champion, Williams is scheduled to warm up by playing doubles with Jabeur at Eastbourne. It'll be a bigger event than that for Jabeur, though.

"It is an honor and privilege to play with her. I’m actually nervous, but I’m going to try to be the doubles specialist for the next week," she was quoted as saying by Racquet at Berlin, where she is playing this week. "But it’s a great honor to play with such a legend, and to be able to really share the court with her is unbelievable because we never played each other and now we’re playing next to each other."

Only five other players have played alongside Williams on tour, and even more rare are collaborations that don't involve her sister Venus.

Jabeur said she learned of Williams's request before Roland Garros, when she was coming off reaching the final in Rome after her first 1000-level title in Madrid, but didn't know why she was selected as Williams's comeback partner.

"My coach, he’s in contact with her coach," noted Jabeur, who fell in the first round of Paris. "I mean, obviously the answer was yes. She was coming back, I didn’t know where. I wasn’t sure, actually, to play at Eastbourne. But now I’m 100 percent sure I will go, just for doubles."

Jabeur and Williams will feature as a wild card duo.
