Halep not concerned about partially torn ankle ligament at French Open

The No. 3 seed won her first-round match in straight sets.

Simona Halep says her ankle injury has improved significantly, despite some pain in her first-round victory at Roland Garros. The No. 3 seed defeated Jana Cepelova in straight sets.

"It was a little bit difficult, but the last three, four days I practiced normally," Halep told the WTA website. "I played some points in practice, and I didn't feel pain. But still, it's a little bit difficult, because when it's cold, it's gets a little bit swollen."

Halep won the WTA Premier Mandatory tournament at Madrid and has been the tour's best performer on clay this season. But she tore an ankle ligament during the final of Rome, putting her in some doubt for the French Open.

Though a recent ultrasound shows it is still at least partially torn, Halep said she is not concerned that it would significantly affect her performance.

"It's like 80 percent recovered, so looks good and I have confidence that it's going to be okay this tournament," she said.

Halep is a former French Open finalist.
