How and when will the ATP and WTA rankings be updated for Canada and Cincinnati?
With 12-day tournament dates and neither one starting on a Monday or ending on a Sunday, things will be working a little bit differently over the next few weeks.
For a lot of tennis fans, checking the rankings every Monday—or Sunday night, for the die-hards—is a tradition. That’s when almost every update happens during the season, as most tournaments wrap up on Sundays, and most tournaments begin on Mondays.
This part of the season is not like most parts of the season, though.
Both combined men’s-and-women’s events in Canada and Cincinnati have expanded their tournament dates to 12 days this year, and neither of them start on a Monday or end on a Sunday.
Canada started on Sunday, July 27th and ends this Thursday, August 7th, while Cincinnati starts on the same day—Thursday, August 7th—and ends on Monday, August 18th.
So how and when will the ATP and WTA rankings be updated now?
The two tours will do things very differently, so let’s go through them one at a time, starting with the ATP rankings.
How the ATP rankings will work
The ATP will update their rankings after Toronto wraps up this Thursday, adding ranking points from Canada this year and dropping points from Washington D.C. last year (points from Canada last year will not be dropping this Thursday). They’ll also be backdated as the August 4th, 2025 rankings—so we’re actually already a few days into a two-week ranking period right now.
Next Monday, August 11th, there will be no new ATP rankings.
The next ATP rankings will come out on Monday, August 18th, after Cincinnati wraps up, adding points from Cincinnati this year and dropping points from both Canada and Cincinnati last year.
With points from two ATP Masters 1000 events dropping off, that means there could be some major changes on August 18th…
How the WTA rankings will work
Like the ATP, the WTA will udpate their rankings after Montreal wraps up this Thursday, but while they’re also only adding points from Canada this year, they’ll be dropping points from both Washington D.C. and Canada last year. Also,they’ll be forward dating them as the August 11th, 2025 rankings—so we’re actually three quarters of the way into a two-week ranking period right now.
There will be another slight update to the August 11th rankings on Monday, August 11th, to add points from ITF Circuit events, but that likely won’t affect the Top 50 or Top 100 too much.
The next WTA rankings will come out on Monday, August 18th, after Cincinnati wraps up, adding points from Cincinnati this year and dropping points from Cincinnati last year.
And there you have it—after that, things will go back to normal.
Well, somewhat.
With the US Open having its first ever Sunday start, on August 24th, all ATP and WTA lead-up events (and Challengers) will wrap up on Saturday, August 23rd, and both sets of rankings will be updated that night or the next day, but both dated Monday, August 25th.
