In just 58 minutes, Djokovic dismisses Tsitsipas in Paris quarterfinal
The world No. 1 avenged his Shanghai quarterfinal loss with a convincing 6-1, 6-2 win over the 21-year-old Greek.
World No. 1 Novak Djokovic needed just 58 minutes to brush aside seventh-ranked Stefanos Tsitsipas, 6-1, 6-2, in the Rolex Paris Masters quarterfinals, avenging his recent Shanghai quarterfinal loss.
“[Tsitsipas] a very good player, he has improved and he’s very professional and trains a lot,” Djokovic said. “That reflects positively on his game. He’s one of the best players in the world, so I’m looking forward to that challenge.”
Djokovic, who scored his 35th win at the high-profile event, is bidding for his 34th career ATP Masters 1000. Rafael Nadal holds the all-time record with 35, while Roger Federer is third with 28.
On Saturday, the top-seeded Serbian will battle Grigor Dimitrov for a place in the final. The 29-year-old Bulgarian ousted Cristian Garín, 6-2, 7-5. Djokovic is 8-1 lifetime against the Bulgarian and has won their past six encounters.
Tsitsipas will now shift his concentration to his upcoming ATP Finals debut, having snagged the sixth spot in the elite-eight field.
