In Linz, Coco Gauff reaches first-ever WTA quarterfinal

It’s been a whirlwind year for 15-year-old Cori “Coco” Gauff, but apparently, it’s not over yet.

The young American had lost in the second round of qualifying in Linz against Tamara Korpatsch, 6-4, 6-2, before an opportunity came knocking on Tuesday, surprising the tennis world yet again.

15 minutes prior to her first-round match, Maria Sakkari withdrew from the event with a right wrist injury. Gauff emerged as the lucky loser and dismissed Swiss qualifier Stefanie Voegele, 6-3, 7-6 (3) to move into the second round.

On Wednesday, Gauff continued her lucky run in Linz when she fought past Ukrainian Kateryna Kozlova. Having rallied from a set and a break down to force a final set, the American teen was up a break in the decider when Kozlova was forced to retire due to a left lower leg injury. With a 4-6, 6-4, 2-0 win, Gauff advanced to the final eight.

Instead of packing her bags, the teenage sensation is into her maiden WTA quarterfinals in shocking fashion. Because, how else would it be?
