Japan's Daniel and Uchiyama make history in Tokyo
Home court advantage is a real thing. With his second-round win over Jordan Thompson, Taro Daniel helped make history. Daniel and countryman Yasutaka Uchiyama are the first pair of Japanese quarterfinalists in Tokyo since 1972, ending a 47-year drought.
The last two Japanese quarterfinalists? Toshiro Sakai and Jun Kuki.
Uchiyama advanced through qualifying and will face huge-serving Reilly Opelka for a spot in the semifinals. Daniel is set to play Australian John Millman.
Daniel is entered in the Farfield, Calif. ATP Challenger which begins this coming Monday. He may have to rethink that decision, or battle some serious jet-lag.
