Kokkinakis loses fight with Monte Carlo sign

The dangers of a slippery clay court are well known, but it was the on-court advertising that got Thanasi Kokkinakis this time. In his Monte Carlo first round against Karen Khachanov, the 22-year-old tripped on a padded sponsor sign, and hit the ground hard.

Kokkinakis would poke fun at his revenge on the sign:

All seemed OK at the time. But the world No. 150, who upset Roger Federer last month in Miami, would lose to Khachanov in straight sets before showing up on crutches around the grounds.

Kokkinakis confirmed that the knee brace on his left leg was due to his lost battle with the sponsor sign:

The young Aussie only just recently returned to the tour after multiple injuries have set his career back, including groin and shoulder problems.
