Leylah Fernandez nabs Trudeau shoutout, meets Billie Jean King and Juan Martin del Potro at US Open
The Canadian teenager celebrated her 19th birthday by reaching her first major semifinal in Flushing Meadows.
Leylah Fernandez has become a household name through her scintillating run at the US Open, and her fan base has only grown larger since she surged into the semifinals with a 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (5) win over Elina Svitolina.
The Canadian teenager received shoutouts from the likes of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, basketball legend Magic Johnson, and from fellow players like Sloane Stephens.
Around the grounds, Fernandez had the chance to meet Billie Jean King and 2009 champion Juan Martin del Potro, who visited the grounds on an electric Day 8.

After scoring wins over defending champion Naomi Osaka and former world No. 1 Angelique Kerber, the newly-minted 19-year-old will next face No. 2 seed Aryna Sabalenka for a spot in her first Grand Slam final on Thursday.
