Madrid Crisis Center, Finals Day

Good morning all. It's the last day of the Madrid tournament, and here's your space for commenting on the matches. The WTA final between Dinara Safina and Caroline Wozniacki begins at 1.30 p.m. local time/ 7.30 a.m. TW time (or US Eastern Standard time). The men's final between Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer will begin around 4 p.m. local time/ 10 a.m. TW time.
On the WTA side I'd say that Caroline Wozniacki was the player of the day, with a gutsy win over an almost-resurgent Amelie Mauresmo. I have to pick Rafael Nadal as yesterday's player of the day for the ATP, with an extremely honourable mention to Novak Djokovic, but as they have already been pictured on one of last night's Overflows, today's image is of yesterday's other ATP winner after his victory had been sealed
As always, we ask that you keep your comments focused on the tennis until after the matches are over. You'll have Overflow posts as normal while they are going on - Ptenisnet will be keeping an eye on the comment numbers.
I noticed a number of people in the comments section last night were avowing that they'd avoid the men's final. I won't be seeing it live myself, but that's unavoidable today. As Pete mentioned in his post "Centre Court with a Hat", below, I have a date on Centre Court with the Wimbledon Roof Celebration and the related exhibitions that are taking place. I've never had the chance to represent TW in that setting before, and today I'll be with the photographers at courtside. By coincidence I'm also keeping up my 100% record of being present at all of Tim Henman's public appearances on court since he played his last two matches at Wimbledon in 2007 (a five-set thriller against Carlos Moya, then a defeat at the hands of Feliciano Lopez - both on Centre Court, naturally). He played his last tour matches in Davis Cup at Wimbledon later that same year, and went out on a high with two wins, kissing the Wimbledon grass at the end, which always seemed an un-Henmanlike thing to do. Those matches happened on Court 1, though - the Centre Court roof was under construction at the time, so the court itself couldn't be used.
I'll look forward to catching up with all of you later on, and will have a report for you on today's events. When I woke up this morning it was raining, but sadly by the time I get there it looks as though the skies will be clear for the formal roof-closing!
As always, enjoy today's tennis.
