Mattek-Sands helps hatchling bird recover from fall

Bethanie Mattek-Sands sometimes seems like the second coming of Jane Goodall. A devoted faunaphile, the American, for her latest animal-aiding trick, helped a hapless hatchling bird in the midst of her time on the practice court.

In classic BMS fashion, the 34-year-old created a vivacious, lengthy and ultimately snort-inducing caption for her post about tiny Chirple, her new avian pal. "The good news is it seems Chirple will make a fully recover in orphan care and then be released," she wrote. "On a side note he kinda looked like a testicle.. and like a testicle he was just SO FRAGILE."

Mattek-Sands' affinity for animals is well known, based on her longtime love for canines and periodic social media posts about creatures of various kinds. Her latest foray, the charity case of Chirple, says a lot about her, just as such a sincere respect and concern for the safety of animals says a lot about anyone.
