Mattek-Sands undergoes knee surgery, again

Unfortunately, the Instagram segment "#InBedWithBethanie" returned this week as Bethanie Mattek-Sands went under the knife again. She shared the news on social media, appearing as positive and upbeat as always despite the circumstances.

The 33-year-old had to have something called a plica removed from her right knee. Though not a problem in most people, the fold of synovial membrane behind the knee cap can become painful with overuse.

The good news is her stay in bed was brief, and she's already back on the horse/bike.

The former doubles world No. 1 injured her right knee severely at Wimbledon in 2017 when she ruptured her patella tendon.

Her doubles ranking is at No. 62, but she hasn't played since the Australian Open. She'll have to miss Indian Wells, where she was a champion in 2016 with CoCo Vandeweghe.
