Michael Venus might miss Aussie Open due to travel restrictions
The Australian government has imposed a 72-hour halt to travel following a coronavirus case in New Zealand, its neighboring country.
ATP doubles player Michael Venus will not know whether he can play the Australian Open until the state government of Victoria announces if it will extend new travel restrictions for New Zealand.
The government has imposed a 72-hour halt to travel following a coronavirus case in the neighboring country. If that is extended, Venus, who is in Auckland, cannot travel to Melbourne in time to do the two-week quarantine.
"It’s not possible to go now," he told Stuff.

Prior to the recent restriction, there was no quarantine required for those coming from New Zealand.
Venus does not expect to know anything further for another two days or till further announcements.
"I’ve spoken to the ATP and they’ve reiterated the same things," he said. "I’ve also spoken to Tennis Australia, who have a contact who’s been working on things for them with quarantining and basically they’ve said they haven’t got any information."
Should he get to play, Venus plans to team with Marcus Daniell in doubles.
