Monday Net Cord

(Not quite a Monday Net Post.)

Welcome back to your dens of iniquity, everyone!  Today signals the end of the holiday vacation and a return to work.  I'm sure some of you are hurting because of it, but hopefully I can ease your pain with this little brain teaser I thought up.

The tennis calendar wraps up this week with the Davis Cup final featuring the United States and Russia.  This is a battle of two great teams, and it got me thinking - what would a Davis Cup All-Star team look like?

At the present time, I'd field this squad:

  • 1st Singles: Roger Federer
  • 2nd Singles: David Nalbandian
  • Doubles: Bob & Mike Bryan

Whether that is the best choice for an All-Star team is not the question here.  But:

**If...**you had to field a side to face this All-Star team, what two singles players and what doubles tandem would you choose?

Keep in mind:

  • The playing surface is indoor hard.
  • Your opposing team must be comprised of players from different countries, except the doubles partners, which have to be from the same country.

Let's see what you can come up with.

Also, if you're in the mood for some Beyond the Bracket, I wrote a short piece on Pete Sampras at my website.

Lastly, this post can be used as OT discussion for Monday, as I'm sure the Weekend OT post is crowded.
