Moving On

Mornin'. Well, it looks like Spain got the consolation prize (having been blasted out of the Davis Cup by France), a win in some soccer tournament down in South Africa. Good for the crimson and gold, who are on a roll in world sports.

But for the pure tennis fan, the heroes of the day are Novak Djokovic and David Nalbandian. Djokovic clinched a Davis Cup semifinal berth for Serbia with a win under trying, politically-supercharged and often ugly circumstances, in Croatia. And Nalbandian, continuing his sandbagging ways, did a lion's share of the work as Argentina ended Russia's 17 tie home winning streak (last loss on home soil: to the U.S. in the 1995 final, when Pete Sampras played in all three matches of the U.S. sweep on slow red clay).

And let's not forget, Kim Clijsters and Serena Williams set a new attendance record (35,681) for tennis at an exhibition in Brussels.

So now we move on, to Stugggart, Bastaad (ATP) and Palermo and Prague (WTA). I'm taking a little time off, so that's all for today. Enjoy the tennis.
