Muguruza cave dives and water rescue trains in Mallorca
Garbine Muguruza isn't afraid to take a risk when she's going for her shot and it appears her appetite for challenges extends far beyond the court. This week in Spain, the two-time Grand Slam champion was back to playing big as she joined in an underwater brigade rescue training program.
The world No. 15 was equipped with a full wet suit, pads and a helmet as she tethered up and down from the ocean water to a helicopter.
During the rescue exercise, Muguruza looked intensely focused, but flashed a quick smile for an unreal photo-op above the sea.
It wasn't just a one-off experiment as she was soon back out in the water for a second exercise.
"Getting ready for my second workout with the GEAS. Our exercise is cave diving," Muguruza wrote on Instagram.
Is there anything the 27-year-old can't do? Just last year, around this time, she summited Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in all of Africa. Muguruza braved freezing temperatures, cliff drops and exhaustion during the five-day hike.
In her latest on-court appearance, the 2016 Roland Garros champion fell short in Paris to American Danielle Collins in the third round. Muguruza is currently not entered in next month's final WTA event in Linz.
