Andy Murray started his return to competition in the challengers, but is set to appear in his first ATP event of the season.

The former No. 1 was defeated by Illya Marchenko in the final of the Biella challenger, having won four matches and 3,650 Euros during the week. He will compete in North Italy again as Biella hosts another challenger this week.

But next week should be a step up, with Murray entering next week's ATP 250 event in Montpellier. The organizers said he was "looking forward to competing once again" as they announced his wildcard.

The 33-year-old finished 2020 with a pelvic injury, which followed recent hip surgery and other physical problems.

He had been scheduled to play the Australian Open as a wildcard, but had to withdraw when he tested positive for coronavirus. Murray has said he experienced a few days of illness but has now recovered, adding he likely got it while training at the LTA Training Centre.

Murray is currently No.125 in the rankings.
