Nick Kyrgios envies Alexander Zverev's professionalism, maturity
Nick Kyrgios says he and Alexander Zverev have a friendly rivalry as they both climb towards the top of the men's game.
Both have been in good form recently, with Zverev winning his second Masters event in Montreal and Kyrgios reaching the final of Cincinnati.
They also get along off the court.
"We played juniors together, so it's always good having him to talk to," Kyrgios told ATP Media.
The 22-year-old Kyrgios, currently No. 18, and 20-year-old Zverev, No. 6, are the youngest players in the Top 20 of the ATP rankings.
"He's been playing great tennis," Kyrgios said. "I actually envy him in a way. He does all the right things, [is] very professional. Obviously I don't quite tick the box there. And he's younger than me."
While Zverev defeated Kyrgios on his way to the Montreal title, Kyrgios won their first two meetings this season.
"As it stands at the moment, I've got the winning record," said Kyrgios. "I'm sure I'll play [against Zverev] a lot more times."
Zverev is the No. 4 seed at the U.S. Open, while Kyrgios is No. 14 in the seedings.
