Novak Djokovic warms up for Roland Garros final with son Stefan as ball kid

Somebody get that kid a uniform! Eight-year-old Stefan Djokovic served as a ball kid for his father, Novak Djokovic, during the latter's warm-up in Paris ahead of Sunday's Roland Garros final.

As his father practiced his forehands, backhands and serves, Stefan Djokovic practiced his form, assuming the position of a ball kid at the back of the court as he fed the 22-time Grand Slam champion balls to use. At the end of the practice, Stefan Djokovic raced in to give his father a leaping high-five, and joined the rest of Novak Djokovic's team in a celebratory cheer.

Both of Djokovic's children, Stefan and Tara, have been fixtures by his side over the course of the fortnight, as he's reached his 34th Grand Slam singles final and seventh at Roland Garros. Earlier in the tournament, Stefan Djokovic was spotted in the players' gym alongside his father, as he warmed-up for his third-round match.

The junior man of the Djokovic household is an avid tennis player himself, and last spring, won his first tournament, played at a local tennis club, on the same day that his father won the Internazional BNL d'Italia in Rome.

"I'm not forcing him to play tennis. I never did that. Not a single day have I told him you have to do this," Djokovic said last year. "It's really purely his own desire to step on the court. Of course, I'll be thrilled if he plays tennis.

"He was showing me forehands and backhands, how he's going to move tomorrow, kind of shadowing, playing shadow tennis. I try to take that energy, childish energy, and fuel my inner child because I tend to forget about my inner child a lot."

Earlier this fortnight, Djokovic opened up on how special it is for him to have his family at Grand Slam tournaments, particularly at this stage of his career—and even teased that tennis fans might see a Djokovic walking the grounds of Roland Garros for many years in the future.

"It’s a pleasure for me to see them both, my son and my daughter yesterday, today and tomorrow," he said after his fourth-round win over Juan Pablo Varillas.

“When I’m with my son, who loves tennis, I’m a different person. It gives me a lot of motivation and inspiration to play. He loves tennis and maybe, he’ll play here one day.”
