A year after finishing runner-up at the Miami Open, Novak Djokovic won’t get the chance to go one step further at the second Sunshine Double stop.

The six-time champion withdrew from the ATP Masters 1000 event on Sunday, citing a right shoulder injury in an update provided by organizers. Djokovic was edged out by Jack Draper in one of the ATP’s matches of the year at Indian Wells Wednesday, falling to the reigning BNP Paribas Open champion in a decisive tiebreaker.

Due to drop 650 points from Miami, combined with Indian Wells semifinalist Alexander Zverev only defending 100 points following his 2025 round-of-16 exit, Djokovic will fall out of the Top 3 on March 30. Additional players including Lorenzo Musetti, Alex de Minaur and Ben Shelton are also in position to leapfrog him with deep runs at Hard Rock Stadium ahead of the European clay-court swing.

Djokovic is 7-2 on the year, having ousted Jannik Sinner to reach the Australian Open final. The 38-year-old will have plenty of points to gain on red dirt, with just 20 to back up across the three 1000-level events in Monte Carlo, Madrid and Rome.

Main-draw action kicks off Wednesday, as Jakub Mensik bids to retain the biggest title of his career. On the women's side, Venus Williams, Sloane Stephens and Jennifer Brady were among the wild card recipients revealed Thursday.
