Patrick Hits the Big Apple

Here’s an update for those of you who have written asking about Patrick Olobo (just type his name in the “search” box on the right to get up to speed on this touching story). The current issue of TENNIS contains filmmaker Rex Miller’s Tennis Life column on Patrick, and the response to it has been wonderful. Rex, who’s holed up in the editing room as I write this (he’s making a movie about Patrick and his trials and triumphs), took time to post me on the latest, via e-mail, a few days ago. He writes:

If you’re interested in helping Patrick, feel free to circulate the story and make calls to college coaches. Patrick's level is definitely good enough to play Division I, and by next fall, he will be even better. His goal is to have his academics at a high enough level to enroll at either a strong junior college program (both academically and tennis-wise), or in a four-year program.
