PHOTOS: Jakub Mensik shares first Masters 1000 triumph with his parents at Miami Open
The 19-year-old sealed the memory to last a lifetime by defeating his idol, Novak Djokovic.
Jakub Mensik had a Miami Open to remember—and his parents were there to see their eldest born join the 40-year champion’s honor roll.
The Czech nearly pulled out from the second stop of the Sunshine Double, he would reveal Sunday, before stringing together six wins for his first ATP Masters 1000 trophy. Having taken out Indian Wells title holder Jack Draper and world No. 4 Taylor Fritz en route to the championship match, Mensik completed his run by triumphing over six-time champion Novak Djokovic following multiple rain delays that significantly pushed back play.
