Player of the Day: Tauson outlasts Brady in Paris
Teenage qualifier Clara Tauson, playing in her Grand Slam debut, saved two match points to defeat Jennifer Brady at Roland Garros on Tuesday. In 2-hours and 45-minutes, Tauson stunned the No. 21 seed, 6-4, 3-6, 9-7.
The 17-year-old Dane doesn't have a lot of high-level experience. She played a WTA 125K Series in Prauge earlier this year, and before that she qualified for Lugano in 2019.
In a well-balanced bout, Tauson hit 48 winners to Brady's 39 and held firm in the dramatic final set.
The Dane is the third-youngest player in the draw as she's only older than 16-year-old Coco Gauff and 17-year-old French wild card Elsa Jacquemot.
Tauson's next challenge is another American, Danielle Collins, on Thursday.
