Players express gratitude for Charleston event
The Credit One Bank Invitational went off without a hitch last week in Charleston, despite a few rainy nights. Team Peace captain Bethanie Mattek-Sands began the week by making the first pick, and ended it by winning the last point to clinch the title for her team.
In the third match of the day on Sunday, Mattek-Sands and Sofia Kenin beat Victoria Azarenka and Amanda Anisimova to give Team Peace an unbeatable 26-16 lead.
What followed was players sharing their gratitude over being back on court in a safe (and fan-less) environment.
Jennifer Brady won all four matches she played, posting nine points for Team Peace.
Shelby Rogers ended her week with two wins on Sunday, including in singles over Mattek-Sands, but it wouldn't be enough to keep Team Kindness in the running.
Madison Keys captained Team Kindness, and had a solid week, beating Caroline Dolehide and Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin in deciding tiebreakers.
Eugenie Bouchard posted big wins for Team Peace on both the singles and doubles court.
The tournament was the biggest to get pulled off successfully since the tour shutdown in March.
