Sandgren, Fritz make Chinese dessert at Chengdu Open

Before taking the court at the Chengu Open, Taylor Fritz and Tennys Sandgren put their culinary skills to the test in celebration of the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival.

“We got to make our own [dessert] dumplings,” Sandgren said. “It was quite difficult, but it was a lot of fun.”

The No. 8 seed would find things difficult on court, too, as he lost to Mikhail Kukushkin 6-4, 6-3 in the opening round.

“We had a competition for who could make them faster. They said Tennys won, but I think it’s up for discussion,” Fritz said.

Though the challenge was fun, the Americans will not be switching professions any time soon.

“Maybe I would cook more, but I don’t have the time to do it,” Fritz said.

The 20-year-old defeated wildcard Chun Hsin Tseng in the opening round, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. He is set to face Sandgren's conquerer Kukushkin in the second round.
