See Serena, Nadal, Wozniacki, Kyrgios in Uber Eats ads
Uber Eats keeps tearing across two draws in this Australian Open, baiting stars including Serena Williams, Nick Kyrgios, Rafael Nadal, and Caroline Wozniacki, the WTA's freshest retiree, to appear in their advertisements.
The ads, often featuring Aussie funny woman Sharon "Shaz" Strzelecki, come off winsome if not hilarious. It's a tribute to the makers that—from Kyrgios' interjections with chair umpires to Nadal's knack for twisting bottle labels the same way—they obviously did their proverbial homework regarding tennis.
Williams' ads comes off best, still chuckle-inducing after repeated viewings. That's a tribute to comedian Strzelecki as well, who plays off the American with great timing. Of all the clips, that's the best acted.
Kyrgios gets a bit of comic help in his ads—from himself, and even from countryman Alex de Minaur, who makes a cameo, even as he ends up hiked over Kyrgios' shoulder.
Kyrgios is still alive in both the singles and mixed doubles draws, while Serena was knocked out in the third round by Wang Qiang.
Perhaps the 2019 adverts from Nadal and Wozniacki are straightforward by comparison, more pensive-witty than summoning outright-winner guffaws.
Wozniacki played her last professional match against Ons Jabeur, falling 7-5, 3-6, 7-5 in the third round in Melbourne. Nadal has yet to drop a set and takes on Pablo Carreno Busta next.
Suspend your disbelief that these elite athletes actually eat the food they faux-order in these clips. Embrace their quirkiness. Truly an "ad-in" call.
