Sharapova shares the importance of beginnings on GMA

When asked by Good Morning America host Rebecca Jarvis what's the worst advice she's ever received, Maria Sharapova was quick to answer.

"It's not how you start, it's how you finish."

Sharapova has heard this line throughout her career, but doesn't believe it.

Sharapova was just 17 years old when she captured her first Grand Slam at Wimbledon and it was just the beginning. She tells GMA that the beginning is one of the most important parts of any journey.

During the short interview, the five-time major champion reflected on her own career, stating she put in the time, and did her due diligence from the very start.

The 32-year-old is applying the same mentality to her candy business Sugarpova. The Russian has built a $195 million business empire from the ground up, setting herself up quite nicely for life after tennis.
