Simona Halep is enjoying a sweet return to Wimbledon in what she hopes will be her first tournament since retiring from the Internazionali BNL d’Italia with an acute calf injury.

The former world No. 1 last appeared at Wimbledon in 2019, where she stunned 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams to capture her second career major title, and was unable to defend her title in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Though she postponed her grass-court preparation at the Bad Homburg Open, Halep has been in good spirits since stepping onto the All England Club—starting with dessert.
