Even before it finished, it was already a classic: Argentina defeated France on penalties to win the 2022 FIFA World Cup on Sunday, and the tennis community was tuned in to all the drama.

Before the match began, battle lines were drawn. Daria Kasatkina and her girlfriend, Natalia Zabiiako, and Hall of Famer Kim Clijsters were among those supporting Lionel Messi and Argentina, while Chloe Paquet was supporting her native France with help from American Coco Gauff.

You know the rest: Argentina led 2-0 at halftime, but France rallied to tie the match in the second half, thanks to two goals by Kylian Mbappé in 90 seconds. Argentina again took the lead in extra time, but France found the equalizer again on Mbappé's third finish, before Messi's squad won the game in penalties.

As the twists and turns unfolded in the second half and beyond, tennis's biggest stars made sure to have their say.

The kudos kept pouring in for both teams once the match finished. Argentine stars Juan Martin del Potro, Diego Schwartzman and Nadia Podoroska led the charge in support of their national team, while French stars Caroline Garcia and Alizé Cornet were among those to thank 'Les Bleus' on their thrilling run.

Noted Messi fan Victoria Azarenka, and Roger Federer, were among those to specifically shout out the all-time great after he officially won his first World Cup, while world No. 2 Ons Jabeur was on hand in the stadium to take in the sights and sounds.
